MSM Choose What Not To Cover

December 23, 2005 | |

If you have been reading the mainstream media coverage of President George Bush’s constitutional authority to wiretap citizens without a warrant, you might find this of interest. Here’s a quote from a government official. Let’s see if you can guess who said it:

“The Department of Justice believes — and the case law supports — that the president has inherent authority to conduct warrantless physical searches for foreign intelligence purposes and that the president may, as he has done, delegate this authority to the attorney general.”

No, it’s not a Bush Administration official. It’s Clinton Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick, who said that the authority carried over to wiretapping, too. Clinton used this authority to search without a warrant the home of CIA agent Aldrich Ames. President Jimmy Carter used the authority as well. Do you remember the media kicking up a fuss when they did it?

Here’s more on the story.
