Told you about the online business ownership survey I have been conducting for client Focus Four. Sent a special note to subscribers of my e-newsletter Think. Nearly 15 percent of them responded by clicking through and taking the survey.

Most non-business owning respondents (49%) were 25 - 34; male (70%); married (64%); had children (51%); and a college degree (52%).  All had dreamed of owning a business, and the primary reason was to pursue their passion (45%). Start-up capital (39%) was the biggest hurdle to overcome in opening a business, these respondents say.

Business owners, on the other hand, were typically 35 - 44 (37%); male (58%); married (81%); had children (81%); and a college degree (48%).  97% had dreamed of owning a business, and the primary reason was to freedom and flexibility (47%). Actually making sales (27%), followed by start up capitasl (22%) and marketing (22%) were the biggest hurdles to overcome in opening a business, these respondents say.
