Starbucks PR Miscue, Caribou Homerun

September 5, 2006 | |

Last week, you’ll remember, we talked about Starbucks and its PR miscue. The coffee chain had sent an email to its southeastern employees telling them to forward to friends and family for a free iced coffee. The email went viral and Starbucks pulled the offer because it was going to cost them too much.

Enter the Caribou Coffee chain. It announced on Friday that it will honor a free-drink offer sent out via e-mail by Starbucks last month. The offer is good for one day only. Customers will only get to choose among Caribou’s iced coffee or tea drinks. Good move on Caribou’s part to turn a competitor’s PR nightmare into a PR bonanza.
